Molly and the Moon – Cold is the Night
‘Cold is the Night’ is the new single from Molly and the Moon. The group are led by the distinctive vocals of Molly Anne (an artist we have featured many times on Belles and Gals – here) and blend elements of folk, country, roots and bluegrass to achieve their signature sound.
Molly Anne has a fantastic way of bringing nature and the elements into her original sound, with that blend of genres all coming together to create that earthy sound. ‘Cold is the Night’ achieves this in spades, intertwining the emotion of the song with references to the sun, the wind and the sea.
The song is all about heartbreak, hoping for a loved one to come back, and mourning the fact that they haven’t. ‘Ive known heartbreak before, and what I wouldn’t give to see you walk through the door‘. Listening to the lyrics, the song has a timeless feel – you can imagine the protaganist of the story telling this sad tale at any time in the past. Despite the heartbreak theme of the song, the repetition of the chorus at the end of the song has an uplifting feel, ending on a note of optimism – ‘I hope the wind blows you back to me‘
