Reba McEntire Salutes Front-Line Workers In New Video To “What If?”

Songs which take on an entirely new meaning during these crazy, unprecedented times have become a bit of an obsession with me lately… some of you may have read my recent article regarding Cheley Tackett’s fantastic new video for her song ” The Healer” …and country superstar Reba McEntire is another artist to come to my attention in this context with the unveiling last week of an updated video for her 1997 hit song “What If?” . Back then it was released as a promotional single to benefit the Salvation Army with all proceeds donated to their service, and the new video cleverly intersperses footage from the original with a montage of an array of front-line workers as they help in the fight against the virus. There are also some really poignant clips of families finding ways of coming together while quarantined.

Written by hit making machine Diane Warren, Reba has commented on how the song has stood the test of time saying on social media that ” The song is as relevant today as it was 23 years ago. That’s the power of a great song …” .
Lines such as the openers “Sometimes I don’t understand , feels like I’m living in a world going mad”, and further in ” somehow it’s all up to us, we’ve got to take this world and make it a world of love… there’s got to be a way to make it better” ring even more true in these difficult times. Unity is definitely the way forwards, these days more than ever.

Inevitably Reba has just announced that she has had to reschedule her 2020 US arena tour, which had been postponed until 2021, dates shown below
