Becky Lawrence releases ‘Maple State’ on Canadian Thanksgiving
Becky Lawrence and Belles and Gals have almost gone hand in hand over the years. Becky played a big role in getting Belles and Gals off the ground in the early days, and then went on to become a Belles and Gals ambassador when her music career really started to flourish. Now we can introduce the south-west based singer as chart topper Becky Lawrence!
Today sees the Isle of Man bred singer release ‘Maple State’ an homage to Calgary and the time she has spent in Calgary. Becky explains:
“Canada is the only place in the world, other than the Isle of Man, where I feel at home. I have always felt a natural affinity with Canada and was ecstatic to finally have the opportunity to visit and take in the breathtaking, cinematic scenery.
We’ve chosen to release on Canadian Thanksgiving, because this song is filled with thanks for the experiences I enjoyed, and memories I made when in Canada. Years later, I still vividly remember the emotions I felt during my time there; one thing that has particularly stuck with me is the smell of the pine trees, which is just unreal. For those who don’t know, I am a #GratefulGang leader, and practice the art of the attitude of gratitude every day.“
The song shouts road trip from the very state, as you can almost feel the wind in your hair as Becky takes you on a drive, heading north with no plans/no map. The song has a wonderful energy around it, with hints of Lucinda Williams – I can’t wait to hear this song live, as I imagine it will become a staple part of Becky’s set, and a real singalong track. An excellent new release from an artist whose trajectory is on a massive upward curve!
