Caitlyn Smith Releases New Single “The Card You Gamble”, The Theme From Hotly Anticipated US Country Music Drama, “Monarch”.

Getting the chance to record the theme song for a major new TV series is obviously both an honour and fantastic exposure for any artist and that is exactly what has happened for Caitlyn Smith. One of Nashville’s brightest rising stars with two well-received albums under her belt (2018’s Starfire and 2020’s Supernova, of course) her latest single released last Friday is “The Card You Gamble” (Arista Records/Monument) the main theme from the highly anticipated TV series  “Monarch” which is due to premiere in the US on January 30th on FOX… listen here https://fanlink.to/gJUi

Produced by three-time Grammy Award nominee and series executive producer Adam Anders and co-producer Peer Astrom the song was written by the incredible Love Junkies (Hillary Lindsey, Lori McKenna and Liz Rose) and is described by Anders as “an amazing song that encompasses the themes of our show both lyrically and musically, but stands on its own legs“, adding “Caitlyn’s voice perfectly matches the sonic landscape that Peer and I wanted to create“.
Caitlyn says of the experience “To jump into a song like ‘The Card You Gamble’ that has so much drama, suspense and mystery was such a fun experience. I love that the Love Junkies wrote the song almost as its own character in the show. The music is so central to the storytelling in ‘ Monarch ‘ and I’m just excited and honoured to be part of it“.
A bit more about the series itself…” Monarch”  is described as a Texas-sized musical drama about America’s first family of country music, starring Academy Award winner Susan Sarandon as the insanely talented but tough as nails Dottie Cantrell Roman and three-time ACM Award winner Trace Adkins as her husband . The family has become a country music dynasty, but it transpires that the very foundation of their success is a lie and when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy it is down to the heir to the crown, played by UK’s own Anna Friel,  to protect her family’s legacy… and she’ll stop at nothing in the process while ensuring her own quest for stardom. Let’s hope we can get to see this over here in the UK!
But of course we are getting to see Caitlyn herself in March, when she is set to perform at the prestigious CMA Songwriters Series at Indigo at the O2, to my mind a highlight of the C2C festival. As well as her own recordings, Caitlyn has written songs for the likes of Miley Cyrus, Dolly Parton, Meghan Trainor, Garth Brooks and Jason Aldean. And heads up that there may well be more UK shows from the Minnesotan announced soon.
