He thought he was rescuing a sheep—but it turned out to be something else
This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Are you spending a fortune on hair care but still left with lifeless, brittle locks? Your hairbrush might be the culprit, secretly damaging your hair on a daily basis.
You might pore over the labels of your hair care products, investing in luxurious oils, deep conditioners, and advanced heat protectants. Yet, despite this detailed routine, your hair remains lackluster and split ends keep creeping back. Could it be that the issue isn’t your shampoo, but the tool you use every morning?
Most brushes available in stores have plastic or metal bristles. While they might detangle effectively, they gradually wreak havoc on your hair strands. Moreover, “plastic causes static electricity which lifts the hair cuticle, making it porous and dull,” says Lou, a hairstylist and owner of Lou’s Hairstyles.
Even more concerning, these stiff materials can be harsh on your scalp, leading to micro-damage and excessive sebum production as a response to the irritation. So, what should you replace this harmful tool with? The secret to perfect brushing doesn’t lie in the force used, but in the distribution of sebum. Sebum is the best natural conditioner, but it often stays concentrated at the roots, leaving the ends dry and fragile. If you want to rescue your hair, it’s time for a change. According to the expert, consider switching to a brush made from boar bristles and nylon. The boar bristles, composed of keratin (like our own hair), capture sebum at the root to distribute it down to the tips, naturally moisturizing the hair fiber. The added nylon bristles help penetrate even the thickest hair, allowing for thorough detangling without causing pain.
To maximize the benefits of this combination of boar and nylon bristles, the expert recommends a “brushing ritual twice a day, morning and night.” In the morning, this routine gently awakens and smooths the hair, taming the cuticles that were lifted overnight. At night, it acts as a purifying treatment: brushing your hair from root to tip helps remove impurities accumulated during the day while spreading the protective sebum along the lengths to nourish them as you sleep. This regular practice stimulates the scalp’s microcirculation without irritation, promoting stronger growth and lasting shine.
By choosing this tool, you turn your brushing into a true care ritual. You allow your hair to regain a spectacular shine, worthy of salon results, right from your own bathroom.
