His first upload features his hosting stint on May 22 at the Michigan-based public access show “Only in Monroe,” which airs on Monroe Community Media. Colbert humorously remarked, “It’s been a brutal 23 hours off the air, so I’m thankful for the opportunity to join Monroe Community Media before they too fall under Paramount’s control,” referencing his transition to a smaller platform and his previous network.
The show featured celebrity guests including Jack White, Jeff Daniels, Eminem, and Steve Buscemi who humorously advertised a local eatery named Buscemi’s Pizza & Subs. Additionally, Byron Allen made an appearance; he is notable for acquiring Colbert’s former late-night slot on CBS to showcase programs from his own Allen Media Group.
Colbert originally hosted “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” as a one-time joke on “Only in Monroe” back in 2015.
In an interesting development, Paramount’s CBS started to issue copyright takedown notices to several YouTube users who were uploading unauthorized copies of Colbert’s “Only in Monroe” episode during the past weekend.
However, a representative from CBS explained to Variety about the situation: “Stephen Colbert’s recent appearance on ‘Only in Monroe’ was funded and produced by CBS Studios and was uploaded on Stephen Colbert’s YouTube channel in cooperation with Monroe Community Media and ‘The Late Show’s’ YouTube channels. Typically, we send out takedown notices to sites that illegally distribute content featuring our network or studio talent, like Stephen Colbert. Nevertheless, for this specific episode, we have decided to halt further enforcement of these copyright claims pending further review.”
