Jamie Foxx Opens Up About His Health Scare
Jamie Foxx has recently opened up about the severe health crisis that led to his hospitalization last year. This month, while performing three shows in Atlanta—the city where his health scare occurred—Foxx took to Instagram to share his thoughts on returning to the stage and telling his story in his own words.

“I am overwhelmed with joy,” Foxx expressed, pleased to finally “tell my side of the story,” accompanied by a series of photos from his show. He highlighted that this wasn’t just his return to the stage since his hospital stay but also his first performance in 18 years.
“But the stage was something I needed, and I needed an audience filled only with love, and that’s exactly what I got,” he continued. “When people ask if this is a stand-up comedy show, I tell them no, it’s an artistic recount of something that went horribly wrong. But thanks to the wonderful folks in Atlanta and especially Piedmont Hospital, I was able to return to the stage and do what I love most.”
While Foxx hasn’t delved deeply into the performance details, the few photos he shared suggest a mix of stand-up, storytelling, and music. In one image, he is seen playing the piano, and in another, he proudly watches his 16-year-old daughter Anelise play the guitar.
Last April, Foxx was hospitalized due to an unspecified medical issue while filming the Netflix action-comedy Back in Action with Cameron Diaz, scheduled for release in January 2025. Though he has been vague about the details, during the summer, Foxx was captured on video telling a group that he remembered having a headache, asking a friend for an Advil, and then losing consciousness for 20 days without any memory of the events.
After being discharged in May, Foxx started to open up about his ordeal on social media. He stepped back into the spotlight in December and earlier this year announced his stage show centered around his medical emergency. At the 7th Annual African American Film Critics Association Special Achievement Awards luncheon, Foxx mentioned, “Everyone wants to know what happened, and I’m ready to tell it, but it has to be on my terms.”
