Many Americans stand to benefit, but it would be a shame to miss out on these subsidies. An extended deadline has been granted.
For many Americans, financial subsidies are essential when considering the purchase of a device. They can significantly reduce the cost, making the investment more feasible. These subsidies are particularly crucial for households with tight budgets, as they minimize financial risks and encourage taking the leap. Without such support, many are reluctant to make an investment, fearing they cannot recover their expenses or might face financial difficulties.
In recent years, you may have heard about the introduction of two subsidies by the government to assist in acquisitions: the ecological bonus and the vehicle conversion bonus. The ecological bonus is targeted at low-income households wishing to purchase either a new or used electric-assist bicycle, a regular bicycle, or an electric bicycle suitable for individuals with disabilities. The amount of this subsidy varies depending on the applicant’s situation. Typically, it covers 40% of the purchase cost. For instance, for a standard bicycle, the subsidy is up to $150; for an electric model, up to $400; and for a traditional bicycle adapted for a rider with a disability, up to $2,000.
The vehicle conversion bonus, which complements the ecological bonus and includes bicycles, is awarded under certain conditions to users who part with old vehicles to help finance a bicycle, with or without assistance. This subsidy can go as high as $3,000 depending on the chosen model and the individual’s circumstances. However, these subsidies are set to soon become a thing of the past. Decree No. 2024-1084 of November 29, 2024, has officially scheduled the end of these financial aids from December 2, 2024. If you’ve ordered a bicycle before this date, an extension is granted until February 14, 2025. You have just a few weeks left to claim your ecological bonus and the conversion bonus provided that the “billing, or the payment of the first lease installment in case of a lease, takes place no later than February 14, 2025,” according to the Ministry of Ecological Transition’s website.
If you’re eligible, be aware that applications for these two subsidies must be submitted online at the dedicated website: primealaconversion.gouv.fr. For your application to be considered, it must include certain documents such as a copy of the transfer certificate or the bicycle lease contract, a valid identity proof, the most recent tax return, a proof of residence, or a document verifying a disability condition, among others. After February 14, 2025, these two programs will no longer be available.
