This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Many of us have given in to this temptation, yet it’s harmful to the health of your hair. Here’s why.
On March 7, Dr. Gérald Kierzek, the medical director at Doctissimo, shared an important tip on Instagram regarding how to maintain healthy hair. He urged everyone to quit a common habit that might be more harmful than you think.
“It’s advised against for several reasons,” the doctor begins. This practice makes your hair weaker and more prone to breaking. He explains, “the hair cuticles open up, allowing pollution to enter the hair and the body.” Therefore, he strongly recommends not going outside with wet hair, especially if you live in a highly polluted urban area.
Of course, there are valid reasons for rushing out with damp hair: being late for a crucial appointment, a malfunctioning hair dryer, or unpredictable weather. And if it’s already raining, why worry about how your hair looks? However, making this a regular practice should be avoided. Taking the time to dry your hair properly is recommended. If you’re pressed for time, consider wearing a hat or scarf.
The doctor also took the opportunity to clear up a common misconception: the idea that cold air on wet hair can cause a cold. According to him, there’s no direct risk of catching a cold from this alone. However, he warns of indirect effects: “when your hair is wet, your body temperature drops, which can weaken your immune system and make you more susceptible to viruses,” he notes.
As you can see, it’s important to allocate a little extra time to dry your hair after shampooing. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry!
