“We are profoundly heartbroken,” said the family of the revered heavyweight champion in a heartfelt post on Instagram.
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the death of our cherished George Edward Foreman Sr., who passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family,” the statement continued.
A Life of Remarkable Faith and Accomplishment
The family’s message highlighted Foreman’s multifaceted life, “A dedicated preacher, a committed husband, a caring father, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, his life was characterized by steadfast faith, humility, and a clear sense of purpose.”
They added, “George was not only a humanitarian and an Olympian but also a two-time heavyweight champion of the world.”
Recognized as a highly respected individual, they described him as “a force for good, a man of discipline and conviction, and a guardian of his own legacy, always striving to uphold his reputable name for his family.”
Family Requests Privacy
“We are deeply thankful for the overwhelming support and prayers and ask for privacy as we mourn and celebrate the remarkable life of a man we were fortunate to call our own,” the family expressed, concluding their announcement with a family photograph.
George Foreman was also well-known for endorsing the famous George Foreman Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine and for winning a gold medal at the 1968 Olympic Games.
Yet, perhaps his most memorable moment was his participation in what is often considered the greatest boxing match ever, “The Rumble in the Jungle,” where he faced Muhammad Ali in 1974.
