This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Need to make amends? Instead of a lengthy apology, try this charming gesture first thing in the morning…
“How am I going to fix this now?” That question has been looping in your mind all night. With dark circles under your eyes, you replay for the fifteenth time the disastrous scene from last night’s candlelit dinner. It was set up to be an exceptionally romantic evening for two. The table was beautifully set, the lights dimmed, classical music playing, your partner had pulled out all the stops. You just had to sit back like royalty. It was perfect until the main course arrived: scallops in lemon butter on a bed of tagliatelle (no small feat).
“Do you like it, darling?” Poor thing, he probably expected some praise for his efforts. Definitely not a harsh comment like “your pasta is overcooked”. Had you added a “my love” at the end, it might have softened the blow. But with such lack of tact, no wonder he reacted badly – especially since he’s quite sensitive… In a flash, the dining room’s romantic ambiance turned into a battleground of sharp remarks about each other’s little flaws. Until, defeated, you both retreated for the night – him on the sofa, you in the guest room.
If you’d just held your tongue (or at least been a bit more delicate), that cozy bubble wouldn’t have burst. Now, it’s up to you to put the pieces back together. Serving breakfast in bed? Good start. But you can score extra points with this additional thoughtful touch…
Before toasting your slice of bread, take a tip from Jimmy of @jimmy_laura_tips: press your index finger into the bread several times (once to the left, once to the right) to create two rows of three tiny hearts along the edges. Once it’s toasted, spread the first row with strawberry jam and the second with chocolate spread, then slice your toast into two small pieces that you’ll place on a plate, along with some strawberries also cut into heart shapes. A sweet and touching way to offer an apology on a plate!
And if that’s not enough? Well, at least you tried. Because loving isn’t always about getting it right the first time. It’s about messing up, getting hurt, getting angry, and still coming back. With a toast, a look, a joke. A small gesture to say: “I messed up, but I care about you.”
