Caleb Williams Unfazed by Critics of His Painted Nails: “I Know Who I Am”

Caleb Williams isn’t bothered by critics.

The quarterback for the Chicago Bears recently spoke about his decision to sport painted nails during an episode of “The Rush with Maxx Crosby,” expressing his indifference to negative opinions.

“In a sport often defined by traditional masculinity, I honestly don’t give a damn,” he commented on the podcast. “I’m going to keep on doing it because it’s something that’s unique to me and it’s a fun way to express support for different things… that’s my reason.”

Williams explained that his fascination with nail art began while observing his mother, a professional nail technician, at work.

The idea of painting his nails first came up during an outing with a past girlfriend. “We were headed to the nail salon one day, and she suggested I try it,” he recounted.

“I thought, why not? I’m secure in who I am and my preferences. So, I went for it. It started with three nails, then four, and eventually I just did all of them,” he shared.

Initially, Williams used his colorful nails as a way to provoke rival teams, even going as far as to inscribe provocative messages like “F—k Texas” on them.

“I get a kick out of trolling; I really do. I’ve got to be more cautious with it these days… but I still engage in it occasionally and try to do it cleverly,” he admitted.

However, his nail art quickly evolved into a platform for advocacy and awareness. “I’ve showcased the suicide prevention hotline and supported breast cancer awareness,” he said. “It’s akin to wearing pink shoes and a pink bandana during games. It’s just another form of expression, using gel on my nails!”
