A Terrifying Ordeal for Comedian Laura Clery
Comedian Laura Clery faced a life-threatening situation when she was trapped beneath a refrigerator in a harrowing accident at her home earlier this week.

The 39-year-old described the ordeal as “the most terrifying night of my life as a single mom” in a detailed Instagram post shared on Thursday.
Clery recounted the chilling incident, stating, “I was alone at home, getting ready for bed, when my 600-pound refrigerator toppled over and pinned me against the counter.”
While trapped, Clery experienced severe distress, unable to move or breathe. During this frightening moment, her children, Alfie, 7, and Poppy, 5, whom she co-parents with her former husband, British music producer Stephen Hilton, were in the house.
“I honestly wasn’t sure if I would make it out alive,” Clery confessed in her post.
Fortunately, she managed to call emergency services using her phone, which was in her pocket, leading to her rescue by first responders.
“It required three firefighters to free me from under it,” she recounted. “I’m still trembling from the shock.”
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
A video shared by Clery shows her being hurried into an ambulance, where she questioned the paramedics about potential injuries, asking, “Do you think I broke anything?”
“That’s why we are taking you to a trauma center,” replied one of the firefighters.
Clery, clearly in pain, expressed her discomfort audibly in the video.
She further elaborated on the event in a Patreon post, which included photos of her in the ambulance and hospital, stating, “The pain was so intense, it almost felt surreal.” Clery also highlighted how hearing her daughter Penelope crying intensified her anxiety, while her son Alfie, terrified, had run outside.
Now recuperating at home, Clery humorously reflected on the bizarre accident, thinking to herself while trapped, “This is the dumbest way anyone has ever died.”
Community Support and Criticism
Clery’s Instagram followers flooded her post with supportive messages. One fan expressed, “Sending you so much love. This is terrifying and absolutely a single mom’s worst fear. I’m so sorry Laura and so glad you’re all okay.”
Another supporter commented, “I’m really glad you are ok and that help got to you fast.”
However, not all responses were supportive. Some followers questioned her decision to record during the crisis. “Why were you recording in the middle of getting put into an ambulance?” asked one commenter. Another pointed out, “The firefighters are clearly annoyed. Nobody records after something like that.”
Life Beyond the Accident
Clery has been navigating single motherhood since her separation from Hilton in early 2023, after a decade of marriage. She attributed the split largely to Hilton’s relapse into substance addiction.
In a poignant Instagram post from May 2025, Clery shared insights into her personal growth, expressing a desire for “peace,” “connection,” and to be surrounded by those who uplift her. “I want out of the chaos and the toxicity,” she stated, affirming her disinterest in engaging with drama.
