Neither flan nor cookies: customers rave about this item from the individual desserts section. Quick to prepare, it’s a top seller at the frozen food retailer.

You have no secrets from your loved ones, except this one. You often sneak off to Picard to buy a slice of flan or a small chocolate cake. Once home, you quickly warm it up and enjoy it down to the last crumb. After washing your dish, you air out the kitchen: there, no trace left of your little indulgence. When your kids come home an hour later, you act nonchalant. Oh, there’s nothing for a snack? Reluctantly, they settle for a tradition and a few squares of chocolate, while you digest your pastry with no consequences. Like you, many French people can’t get enough of certain Picard desserts. One of them has even become the favorite sweet treat among regulars. The brand tells us: since its introduction 25 years ago, this product has remained the top-selling individual dessert by the frozen food retailer.

Last year, two other products stood out. First, the instant chocolate fondant: priced at 2.60 euros each, it took third place in the rankings. Its main selling point? A gooey, indulgent center, achieved in just 35 seconds in the microwave at 900 W. However, some customers have lamented the price increase. Next, the 16-piece box of chocolate, raspberry, vanilla, pistachio macarons was the second most sold dessert in the “individual pastries” category. Priced at 6.50 euros for a box of 16, or 40 cents each, they thaw in one hour in the refrigerator. Customers unanimously agree: this product is “comparable to macarons from some pastry shops,” although some feel the raspberry ones could be improved. But in the pastry section, another product took the crown for the year…

“It’s been our top 1 since its launch in 2000,” the brand proudly states. For 25 years, the 2-pack chocolate fondants have been the undefeated champions in the frozen individual desserts category. Top 1 in sales in 2025 – as every year since 2000 – they are sold for 3.99 euros per two-pack. Ready in 20 minutes in an oven at 180°C, these individual fondants are made with eggs, chocolate, sugar, flour, butter, and an emulsifier. Year after year, their success is undeniable. Customers praise these cakes for their not-too-sweet taste and their gooey center. Some say they buy them very regularly for personal consumption, or for their children and grandchildren.

As the brand points out, “the chocolate fondant is so successful that many innovations have been launched to vary the pleasures: salted caramel heart, praline, white chocolate… and coming this March: Picard launches the chocolate fondant with a matcha heart.” Chances are, your kids won’t get a taste of it!
