In the frozen food section of this popular store, shoppers are particularly enthusiastic about one product. Since it’s only sold during the Christmas season, some even stock up on it…

“One product sold every 20 seconds” – the statistics from Picard underscore the popularity of this item, cherished by customers. With a forest-like flavor, an easy-to-spread texture, and notably, an excellent value for the price, this food product has garnered a large following. As it’s available only during the holiday season and can be kept in the freezer for weeks, some customers do not hesitate to stockpile it. “Whenever I find it, I grab it!” shares Suzanne, a former Picard salesperson and a regular at the store. “It’s not available in all Picard stores,” she explains, “so last year, I stocked up!” And she’s not the only one…

Suzanne loves this product for its melt-in-your-mouth texture, reasonable price, and above all, its taste. “It’s a product for special occasions that also doesn’t break the bank,” she tells us. Customer reviews reveal a true fan club for the product. “I bought it last year for the Christmas holidays, and I’m buying it again this year. It’s really very good,” says one satisfied customer. Another exclaims: “I buy enough at Christmas to last the whole year! Please keep it on the shelves all year round!” One mother even mentions that her children love it too: “The texture, taste, and convenience—everything about it is great. I usually buy several at once to stock up!” Chantal, another customer, notes that it is “delicious thinly sliced on toast.”

So, what is this product? It’s the Picard Plant Delight, a “vegan foie gras” made with cashews and mushrooms! Priced at 6.70 euros for a 220-gram block, it’s part of the brand’s festive selection at Christmas. Bruno, the R&D (Research and Development) project leader for the brand, explains: “we wanted to use cashews to replicate the true texture of a foie gras block.” He adds that the product features “a distinctive taste, enhanced with a hint of spices and cognac, much like one would season a foie gras themselves.” The addition of penny bun, black mushroom, white pepper, green pepper, and miso paste (a strong-tasting fermented Japanese soybean paste) also helps to intensify the forest-like flavor of this terrine-style foie gras.

For optimal enjoyment, the brand recommends unmolding the frozen plant delight into a dish, covering it with the tray, and then letting it thaw in the refrigerator for five hours. It is also advised to serve it chilled for the best consistency.
