He thought he was rescuing a sheep—but it turned out to be something else
This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Between Curbside Pickup and Home Delivery, the Shopping Experience is Streamlined and Simplified.
With busy schedules, demanding work commitments, and a need to manage finances effectively, an increasing number of consumers are turning to online grocery services offered by Intermarché. The concept of Curbside Pickup, which first emerged in the U.S. in the late 1940s within the fast-food industry, has now captured the interest of a significant portion of French households: nearly one-quarter have embraced it. The process is user-friendly: orders are placed on the website or through the app, and then the groceries are picked up directly from the store. At Intermarché Drive, customers can add specific instructions in the comments section to ensure these are considered during order preparation. Currently, over 2,000 Drive locations are available across the country.
By Car or On Foot
Drivers can have their groceries loaded into their trunk in less than five minutes. For those on foot, there is the option of Pedestrian Pickup: their purchases await them at the store entrance, where they can also choose to add items in-store or take advantage of on-site services.
For those with unusual schedules, the 24/7 Pickup option allows customers to collect their purchases at any time, thanks to continuously accessible lockers. The selection of products available matches those in-store, at the same prices, offering the convenience of having someone else prepare your shopping at your chosen store as if you were there in person.
Opting for Home Delivery
For busy young parents, overworked individuals, those with limited mobility, or the elderly, home delivery offers a valuable alternative. The process is straightforward: place an order online, choose a delivery slot, specify an address, and the groceries are delivered right to your door—even up flights of stairs without an elevator! Again, the delivered products are the same as those available in-store, fresh and at the same price (excluding delivery fees).
Combating High Living Costs
To better control spending, online shopping can be a great strategy: products can be easily compared, promotions are just a few clicks away, and loyalty points accumulate with each purchase. Whether it’s Curbside Pickup or home delivery, all these solutions are supported by the Intermarché website and app, accessible throughout France.
