This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
Searching for the most affordable Easter eggs? This store is slashing chocolate prices!
On Sunday, April 20, children will eagerly hunt for Easter eggs in the backyard, a fun activity that often ends with everyone feeling a bit too full. This year, however, it’s the parents who might struggle to stomach something else—the cost. Chocolate prices have jumped by 14% over the past year, according to consumer association UFC-Que Choisir. Surprisingly, it’s the store brands that have seen the steepest price increases. So, where can one find reasonably priced Easter chocolates? We’ve gone on a hunt for the most budget-friendly eggs, and here’s the retailer that stands out.
When on the lookout for the cheapest product, one shouldn’t just glance at the displayed price; it’s the smaller price per kg listed below that matters. That’s what we checked and clearly, this retailer is playing a winning hand. For example, a small 50g Lindt Gold Bunny costs €3.39 at Carrefour, which is €67.80 per kg—yes, you read that correctly. In contrast, this store offers a chocolate bunny for just €0.99, costing €19.80 per kg. They also sell a 200g bag of mini chocolate eggs for only €1.65, or €8.25 per kg, while others, like Kinder’s Schoko-Bons, are sold for more than double that price at other retailers. The company behind these competitive prices is none other than the discount chain Lidl. For Easter, the German retailer is running a special promotion on chocolates. Eggs, chicks, chocolate fish—there’s something for everyone. Don’t wait too long: the promotion, featured in this catalog, hits shelves on April 10. At these prices, supplies might not last.
For large families, the second package of some sweets is even offered at 50% off. If you want to delight your loved ones without breaking your chocolate budget, a quick trip to Lidl could be well worth it. However, always pay attention to the price per kg. Like all good deals, there are loss leaders and then there are the rest…
