This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
This method promises a batch of golden and crispy croissants without the endless steps of traditional pastry making.
In the world of baking, croissants are often seen as a daunting challenge reserved for the truly dedicated. Those who have attempted homemade puff pastry know all too well that a simple craving for a pastry can quickly turn into an endless cycle of folding and resting phases. So, naturally, when a method touted as super-fast promises great results, it’s worth paying attention. This technique eliminates the constant trips between the work surface and the refrigerator, the need to encase butter, or the precisely measured rolling. What remains are the essentials: the layers, the melting chocolate, and the magic that happens when golden dough puffs up in the oven. The simplicity of this method explains the excitement generated by the original video, which showcases a “two-ingredient” version. Many have discovered that despite its minimalist appearance, the recipe is surprisingly effective—a great way for beginners to dive into homemade pastries, even with no prior cooking experience.
The recipe also allows for a variety of delights: flavored chocolate, chocolate with nuts, and richer or more intense versions. Plus, this method requires no special investments. No need for special flour, laminating butter, or hard-to-find ingredients. The baking process is also straightforward. A baking sheet, an oven, and a little attention are all that’s needed to achieve golden croissants with chocolate that remains soft and melty at the center.
The secret? You’ll need two ready-to-use puff pastries, 130 g of dark chocolate (or 125 ml when melted), and one egg. Melt the chocolate in the microwave in thirty-second intervals. Unroll the first pastry sheet, spread the melted chocolate up to the edges, then lay the second pastry sheet on top.
Cut into triangles, roll them starting from the base, place them on a baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and bake for twenty-five minutes at 375°F (190°C). And that’s it.
Whether it’s to delight the kids, enhance a brunch, or create a fully homemade Christmas breakfast, these croissants tick all the boxes. And judging by online comments, they are even better when served warm!
