However, according to Brandon Palmer and other fitness experts, this belief needs adjustment. Long-duration cardio does burn calories, but it’s not necessarily the most efficient method for fat loss, especially around the abdomen. Palmer suggests rethinking your workout routine to include shorter, more focused sessions. “I want my followers to understand that walking or jogging for just 20 minutes at a moderate pace with a significant incline can eliminate belly fat and tone your body more quickly than hours of flat cardio,” he explains.

If you don’t have the option to run up a hill, utilize the incline setting on your treadmill. By walking or running at a 15% incline, you engage more lower body muscles and the abdominal area, significantly increasing your energy expenditure. Unlike a flat run, this technique leads to better muscle activation and more effective fat burning, even post-workout.

Palmer also emphasizes that this workout approach does not eliminate the need for a balanced diet. Australian dietitian Leanne Ward confirms that no amount of exercise can compensate for poor eating habits. She shared an example of a client who was doing six HIIT sessions a week hoping to quickly shed extra pounds. The result? She was constantly hungry and tired, which prevented her from maintaining a healthy diet. The goal is to combine this workout technique with a healthy lifestyle without exhausting yourself.
