Need a self-tanner to look sun-kissed before summer? Whether it’s a cream, spray, or in-shower tanner, here are some detailed steps to properly apply self-tanner to different body parts.
To achieve a beautiful tan without sun exposure, first prepare your skin. How? By exfoliating the day before to remove dead skin cells, then washing with a pH-neutral soap to avoid irritating the skin. Next, use a self-tanner suitable for the area you want to tan. While there are multi-purpose products available, it’s best to use one specifically for the body and another for the face. Since facial skin is thinner, a lighter texture is preferable. When in doubt, seek advice from your sales consultant.
How to Apply Self-Tanner to Your Face?
- Before applying self-tanner, make sure your skin is clean. Wash your face with a cleanser that suits your skin type. Apply and rinse thoroughly using two makeup remover pads. Repeat with an exfoliating lotion for perfectly clean skin.
- Apply the self-tanner with a foundation brush, stretching the product up to your ears, down your neck, and across your décolletage.
- Allow it to sit for ideally 1 hour.
How to Apply Self-Tanner to Your Body?
- Use a pair of latex gloves or a special tanning mitt to prevent staining your hands.
- Apply two successive layers of the product on your legs, arms, décolletage, etc., being lighter with the second layer. This last layer should mainly emphasize the areas of the body that catch light: the décolletage, shoulders, etc.
- Blend the product around the ankles, joints, and wrists.
- Let it sit for 15-20 minutes before dressing, 3 hours before showering, and 24 hours for a noticeable before/after effect.
How to Apply Self-Tanner to Your Legs?
- Elevate your leg, perhaps on the edge of the bathtub.
- Take a small amount of product and apply it in circular motions from the lower calf to the knees. Continue up to the thighs, stretching the product as much as possible, especially on the inner thighs. Finally, go over the top of the foot and toes with light strokes for a natural finish without harsh lines.
How to Apply Self-Tanner to Your Arms?
- Apply the product on the top of your hand, then gradually move up, wrapping around until you reach the shoulders, not forgetting the inside of the arm.
- Finish with a few light strokes under the armpits and on the fingers for an even lighter finish.
