Having recently stirred the online community with their global campaign for Gap, which featured the unforgettable 2003 hit “Milkshake” by Kelis, band members Manon and Sophia shared with Page Six Style their aspirations for a dream collaboration with the famous singer.
“I think it’s going to happen,” Manon hinted during a shared interview with Sophia while discussing their partnership with Invisalign.
“She’s shown her support online, which has been really encouraging. She definitely knows about us,” Manon added.
Sophia, who was only a few months old when “Milkshake” was released, expressed a deep-rooted connection to the song, partly due to its feature in the iconic film “Mean Girls.”
“When we heard that ‘Milkshake’ was going to be the campaign song, we were thrilled,” she laughed. “It’s such an energetic track that many of us remember from ‘Mean Girls.’ I knew it would soar in popularity after the campaign. And it truly did. It’s just so iconic.”
Behind the Scenes with Katseye and Gap
The creative process for the “Milkshake” campaign was not an overnight effort. Sophia revealed that choreographer Robbie Blue and his team of dancers spent considerable time refining the dance moves even before the band joined rehearsals.
“He was crafting something magical,” Sophia admired. “The choreography evolved continuously during our rehearsals. He was committed to perfecting every segment. It was captivating to watch.”
The extensive three-day shoot felt like a single, continuous day, according to Sophia, largely due to the hours spent wearing the custom Gap outfits designed exclusively for the commercial. And those outfits? They’re staying with the girls.
“It’s hanging in my closet. There’s no way I’m giving it up!” Sophia exclaimed when asked if they might donate the outfits to a museum.
“Absolutely not,” Manon, 23, chimed in, determined to keep her piece of the campaign.
The duo were awestruck by the scale of the production. “I think this is the biggest set we’ve ever been on,” commented Manon.
“We were treated like royalty. The team at Gap made sure we were comfortable, and it felt less like work and more like a dream,” she added.
Style and Individuality at the Forefront
Manon and Sophia, along with the other four members of Katseye, take pride in their unique fashion choices, which shine through from their Gap ads to their vibrant music videos and striking red carpet moments.
“You exude a rich, glamorous royalty,” Manon described Sophia’s style, which leans towards the feminine and glamorous.
“And you embody that effortless model-off-duty vibe,” Sophia responded, praising Manon’s laid-back fashion sense. “She can show up in sweatpants and a tank, and still own the look.”
Manon likes to keep her wardrobe lively with the “occasional miniskirt.” “Every now and then, I spice it up,” she said, “and I just feel great walking down the street.”
Their confidence is also boosted by their Invisalign treatment, a crucial part of their partnership. “Invisalign is the simplest way to straighten teeth,” Manon shared. “I wore a large head brace as a kid, so using Invisalign to straighten my teeth discreetly has been incredible.”
Sophia agreed, noting the convenience of the treatment. “I kept my first aligner to compare my progress with each new set. It’s amazing to see the change and how it fits into our hectic lives,” she said.
Katseye’s Rising Stardom
Their successful Gap campaign is just the latest highlight in Katseye’s meteoric rise since their debut on Netflix’s “Pop Star Academy.” They’ve achieved significant milestones including a historic performance at Lollapalooza, their first MTV Video Music Award, an upcoming Coachella performance, and the announcement of their first headlining tour, along with a string of hit songs.
“It’s hard to pick just one highlight,” Manon reflected. “It feels like we’ve been at this for a decade.”
“It’s all been surreal,” Sophia added, still in disbelief over their recent successes. “From the VMAs to Coachella and everything in between—it’s just incredible.”
With a viral campaign already making waves, a potential collaboration with Kelis in the works, and a world tour on the horizon, Katseye is clearly just getting started.
