Lily Allen’s Fashionable Retaliation
Lily Allen has unleashed a fashion statement that’s as bold as her music. The 40-year-old artist launched her “West End Girl” tour at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall this Monday, showcasing her musical journey post-breakup with David Harbour. Her performance was visually accompanied by a series of striking outfits that complemented the poignant themes of her songs.

One of the standout moments was during her performance of “4Chan Stan,” where Allen donned a lengthy piece of cloth adorned with handwritten lyrics, alongside receipts from tequila bars and Bergdorf Goodman. This choice was a clear reference to a song lyric where she finds out her husband has purchased an expensive handbag for another woman from the upscale retailer.
Sartorial Details of the Tour
Allen’s provocative ensemble featured a bespoke sheer lace bodysuit by Self-Portrait, complete with ruffled details, layered over burgundy patent leather shorts, an Agent Provocateur bra, Calzedonia fishnet tights, and towering Christian Louboutin heels. This outfit was part of her look for earlier songs in the set.
The fashion direction for the tour was masterminded by Mel Ottenberg, the editor-in-chief of Interview magazine. Ottenberg, who remarked on Instagram that Allen’s tour lured him out of a 20-year hiatus from tour styling, first styled Allen two decades ago. The glam squad was completed with makeup artist Aimée Twist and hairstylist Ross Kwan, who styled Allen’s hair into an eye-catching bouffant with bangs.
Throughout the 45-minute performance, Allen delivered all 14 tracks from her latest album, which narrates the demise of her marriage to the 50-year-old “Stranger Things” star. Her wardrobe transitions mirrored the emotional landscape of the album, featuring six distinct looks.
Staging and Wardrobe Highlights
In a dramatic portrayal of the song “Madeline,” which delves into discovering texts to another woman on her husband’s phone, Allen appeared in a translucent Valentino negligee, paired with Araks lingerie and a marabou-trimmed Manito silk robe, performing under a soft pink light.
Allen started the show in a chic pink tweed Valentino skirt suit adorned with a large black bow. Later, she switched into a daring black leather bustier dress by 16Arlington for her performance of “Beg For Me.” In another stunning scene during “Pussy Palace,” Allen performed on a bed with a Duane Reade shopping bag beside her, a direct echo of the song’s lyrics about finding a shoebox filled with romantic letters from other women.
Previously, Allen had showcased two songs from this album during a “Saturday Night Live” appearance in December, and notably dressed up as the children’s book character Madeline for Halloween, hinting at the album’s narrative about infidelity.
Since her split, Allen has found new love with Jonah Freud, a 28-year-old writer and artist from London, who is also the great-great-grandson of Sigmund Freud. She recently confirmed the relationship in an interview with Grazia UK.
The tour is set to continue across the UK through March before making its way to North America in April.
