Le Dream Matte Mousse still sticking in your memory? We found its worthy successor — with a modern spin — and it’s from Maybelline New York once again.

This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
If you grew up in the 2010s, you probably remember the scent, the little glass pot and the unmistakable feel of the cult-favorite Dream Matte Mousse. Back then it ruled vanity kits everywhere, even if it sometimes left the skin looking a touch too powdery and created a visible line at the jaw and neck (forgiveable, in hindsight). Two decades on, the American brand is revisiting that vibe and leaning into Y2K nostalgia. But this time, forget the mask-like finish and the heavy texture: the company quietly relaunched a mousse-format product that’s far lighter and more in tune with current beauty preferences.
The launch was low-key when it dropped in spring 2026, and it could have slipped by unnoticed. Adapting to today’s taste for makeup that reads fresher, more subtle and luminous, Maybelline has revisited mousse formulas with a contemporary approach. Enter Cloudtopia Lip & Cheek: a richly pigmented mousse blush you blend with your fingertips to lay down a soft veil of color on the apples of the cheeks, creating a very natural look without piling on product. Unlike its predecessor, which could emphasize pores and patches of dryness, Cloudtopia is formulated to smooth the skin’s surface. The concept draws on K-beauty influences — think blurred, softly flushed cheeks that mimic a natural rosy hue from cold air or sun, and shades that are easy to diffuse into a gentle gradient.
The bonus? Multiuse functionality. A light tap of the mousse on the lips gives a bitten-lip effect and an on-trend monochrome finish in seconds. The result dries down to a matte, non-sticky finish and the brand claims wear of up to 14 hours.
Cloudtopia is being sold in mainstream retailers for about €10 and comes in several shades, from soft powder pink to muted rosewood. One caution: just like with the old Dream Matte Mousse, less is more — too much product can quickly tip into clown-cheek territory. Still, it feels like a faithful heir to the cult classic, updated for today.
