Is it possible to maintain a bright smile with a product found at your local store? Let’s find out!
Maintaining white teeth can often feel like a complex challenge. While professional dental treatments are the most effective, they can also be quite expensive. Alternative home remedies, such as baking soda or activated charcoal, do work to some extent but have their limitations. Additionally, the internet is flooded with various whitening kits, but their unknown ingredients can pose a risk of damaging your teeth. A few months ago, a well-known oral care brand introduced a new whitening routine available at major retailers. I decided to give it a try and here’s my detailed review.
What does this routine promise? To brighten your teeth in just a few weeks and remove food and drink stains that have accumulated over the years. The products are based on scientifically proven active ingredients that are safe for your teeth. Ideally, even those with sensitive enamel should benefit from it. Over several weeks, I tested Colgate’s Max White Ultimate kit. The process is straightforward: first, you brush your teeth with the Max White Ultra toothpaste, then apply the whitening serum which contains hydrogen peroxide—the most commonly used bleaching agent at a concentration of 0.1%, the highest allowed in over-the-counter products. For the next ten minutes, you wear a mouthpiece equipped with LED light. This device, which plugs into your phone and molds perfectly to your mouth, activates the serum’s ingredients and speeds up the whitening process.
So, does this kit actually work? Yes, it does. After a few uses, I noticed my teeth were visibly whiter, and even received compliments from people around me. Now, my teeth weren’t yellow to begin with, nor did they shine like those of a movie star, but the difference was noticeable. Keep in mind, the results are more subtle compared to professional whitening since the concentration of peroxide is lower. However, if your goal is to remove stains or slightly brighten your teeth for a natural look, then this kit might just win you over. To maintain the whitening effects, it’s important to use the kit regularly.
The downside? The serum leaves a white residue on your enamel and gums that can be stubborn despite proper brushing. You have to be meticulous in removing it in the morning to avoid walking around with it all day. The kit is available in supermarkets and online for around $79. While it’s definitely an investment, it is still less expensive than a professional treatment at a dental clinic.
