Expectations for the Silent Hill 2 Remake were anything but stable leading up to its release. Fans were initially concerned about Bloober Team’s ability to do justice to one of the most iconic horror games of all time. The situation wasn’t helped by a poorly received trailer, which misrepresented the game’s tone by focusing too heavily on action elements rather than the psychological horror that defined the original.
However, as the dust settled, it became clear that the game itself delivered. The remake was met with strong reviews, securing an 86/100 Metacritic score, and its commercial success soon followed. Konami recently announced that Silent Hill 2 Remake has officially sold 2 million copies, reinforcing its place as one of the fastest-selling titles in the series’ history.

A New Benchmark for the Silent Hill Franchise
Launched in October 2024, the remake initially sold 1 million copies within its first week, making it the fastest-selling Silent Hill title to date. Now, just three months later, the game has doubled that figure, reaching the 2-million-unit mark.
For context, Konami previously reported in 2017 that the Silent Hill franchise had sold a total of 9 million copies since its debut in 1999. Thanks to the remake’s success, the franchise has now crossed 11 million units, with the new Silent Hill 2 remake accounting for over 18% of total sales.
Although Konami hasn’t disclosed exact sales figures for each entry in the series, some comparisons can still be drawn. The original Silent Hill 2 sold 1 million copies, while the first Silent Hill reached 2 million. This means that the remake has already matched the best-selling title in the franchise and has doubled the sales of its own predecessor.

How Silent Hill Stacks Up Against Resident Evil ?
Despite this success, the Silent Hill series still lags behind its biggest competitor: Resident Evil. The numbers speak for themselves—while the Silent Hill franchise has now surpassed 11 million sales, Resident Evil has sold a staggering 160 million units in total.
To put things into perspective, Resident Evil 7 alone has sold 13.7 million copies, surpassing the entire Silent Hill franchise on its own. Likewise, the Resident Evil 2 Remake has moved 14.2 million units, demonstrating the sheer dominance of Capcom’s horror juggernaut.

A Promising Future for Silent Hill
Regardless of how it compares to other horror franchises, the success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake has undoubtedly breathed new life into the series. Konami has already confirmed that multiple Silent Hill projects are in development across different studios.
Among the most anticipated upcoming titles is Silent Hill Townfall, being developed by No Code, the studio behind Observation. Additionally, NeoBards Entertainment, known for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, is working on Silent Hill f, a title set in 1960s Japan with a story penned by Ryūkishi07, the creator of Higurashi: When They Cry.
Beyond gaming, the Silent Hill universe is also set to expand onto the big screen, with Return to Silent Hill, directed by Christophe Gans, slated for release in 2025.
With fresh games and a cinematic revival on the horizon, it’s clear that Silent Hill is far from dead—in fact, it might just be entering one of its most exciting eras yet.
