Imagine setting up a charm school inside a brothel.
According to Page Six, the new owner of Sonja Morgan’s townhome is converting it into a sober living home.
This is quite the twist, especially considering the 61-year-old former reality star is infamous for her heavy drinking, even in a community known for enjoying a drink or more.
Morgan had a challenging time selling the property.
The ex-“Real Housewives of New York City” cast member initially put her luxurious five-level home on 63rd Street, where she resided with her ex-husband John Adams Morgan (an heir of J.P. Morgan), on the market in 2019 for $11 million. After a renovation and several price drops, the house finally sold for $4.5 million in 2024.
We’ve learned that the property has been transformed into a branch of Release Recovery, a high-end rehab center that addresses both substance abuse and mental health disorders. The center’s website boasts stylish living spaces that might look familiar to fans of the Bravo hit show, which featured Morgan from 2010 to 2021 before the original lineup was overhauled.
Morgan’s battles with alcohol were often a focus on the show.
In 2021, her co-stars Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, and Leah McSweeney felt compelled to intervene after she got into a physical altercation with a guest star and shattered a glass fire alarm cover. McSweeney expressed her concerns, saying, “I think that it would be absolutely irresponsible and messed up of us to not say we think the drinking is going to hurt you. We are worried and we want to help.”
When informed about the new purpose of her former residence, Morgan responded with a text saying, “Hhhhaaaa!” She was taken aback, having been told by the buyer that he intended to live there with his wife.
Morgan continues to stay busy with her “Sonja In Your City” variety show coming to City Winery on September 5, and she is set to appear on “Celebrity Name That Tune” on November 17.
Release Recovery has opted not to comment on the matter.
