Offering an All-Inclusive Menu for Under $50 in a Michelin-Starred Restaurant? This Parisian Chef Took the Challenge and Triumphed!
As of 2025, the Michelin Guide lists 654 starred establishments in France, broken down into 542 one-star, 81 two-star, and 31 three-star restaurants. This ever-growing constellation highlights the vitality and variety of French culinary arts, with 68 new promotions this year alone.

Despite the excellence these esteemed dining spots offer, for many French people, dining at such venues remains an elusive dream. A survey conducted by Harris Interactive for Groupon in 2018 revealed that 63% of respondents never visit these restaurants, or do so less than once a year. Unsurprisingly, the main deterrent cited is the high cost, which discourages 68% of those polled. This remains a valid point today, as recent research by Le Point confirms. For instance, dining at a restaurant that has just earned its first star costs an average of €109 per meal. This price rises to €214 for a newly awarded two-star restaurant and €255 for three stars (quite pricey indeed).
In an effort to make this high-end cuisine more accessible to a broader audience, some chefs have begun offering all-inclusive meals at very competitive prices. One such innovator is Thibaut Spiwack at his restaurant Anona in Paris’ 17th arrondissement, which has been recognized with one Michelin star and also a green star for its eco-friendly initiatives.
At Anona’s lunchtime offering, named “the little star,” guests can enjoy a complete menu—consisting of an amuse-bouche, appetizer, main course, dessert, and petits fours—for just €49. This comes with the quality one would expect from a Michelin-starred establishment. “We are even cheaper than the bistros on our street”, Chef Spiwack shared with @florianonair on Instagram, who had the chance to savor, among other dishes, a red tuna croustade adorned with edible flowers and homemade gnocchi paired with a Morbier cheese emulsion.
It’s important to note that this menu changes weekly, providing a constantly refreshed culinary experience to a growing number of regular patrons who are thoroughly impressed by the value for money. This proves that enjoying a meal at a starred restaurant without breaking the bank is indeed within reach.
