Looking for a low-maintenance hairstyle for mature hair? Here’s one that should catch your eye.
Is a stylish yet low-maintenance haircut for aging hair too good to be true? As we age, our hair undergoes several changes: hair loss, slower growth, frizz, dryness, or the appearance of silver strands. With these changes, maintaining the same hairstyle can be challenging. Many people opt for a significant chop. These shorter styles come with a great benefit: “Shorter cuts and those that utilize texture or clever cutting techniques can make hair appear thicker and healthier without requiring extra maintenance,” explains Laura Elliott, a stylist, to the American media outlet Harper’s Bazaar. One style stands out in particular.
This haircut has been extremely popular for several months and is ideally suited for enhancing mature hair. It’s not just a simple bob, but what the professional refers to as a textured bob, a more modern and playful version of the classic. “It includes soft layers and subtle internal structuring to create a natural look, full of movement and dimension.” Laura Elliott notes that this technique helps lighten the hair while adding natural volume, making it particularly “flattering for those dealing with thinning hair, a loss of density, or a lack of volume at the crown.” The beauty of this hairstyle? If strands curl, get bent out of shape, or frizz a bit due to humidity or the changing texture of white hair, it’s all part of the style! No more hours spent trying to tame them!
For regrowth, unlike a straight bob that requires frequent salon visits, the different layers blend seamlessly. You can easily space out your appointments. Even better: if you decide to go for a grey blending or French blending balayage, the strands framing the face create an ideal canvas for coloring and brightening up the complexion.
When it comes to styling, it’s quite simple: opt for hydrating and lightly sculpting products that reduce frizz and create a very chic effortless effect. And for the summer and current heatwaves, it’s perfectly fine to let them air dry (goodbye, heating tools). “Comb your hair in the shower using a detangling brush for wet hair or a wide-tooth comb, then apply an oil, texturizing spray, or curl cream to still-damp hair. Once dry, gently separate the strands with your fingers,” concludes Marc Trinder, another hairstylist.
