Red Carpet Radiance
At today’s event, the 27-year-old actress captivated the crowd and online viewers in her bespoke pale pink corseted dress designed by Erdem. The elegant gown featured a red ribbon at the hip and was styled by Molly Dickson.
Completing her ensemble, the “Anyone But You” star opted for a nude lip and a subtle smoky eye, showcasing classic Hollywood glamour with her long blonde waves styled to perfection.
Focus on Film
While in Toronto for the premiere of her new film “Christy,” a sports biopic, Sweeney has surely made her presence felt. The actress and producer remains focused on her film amidst a flurry of other activities.
Just yesterday, Sweeney tactfully avoided discussing her controversial American Eagle campaign. Her stance was clear during an interview with Vanity Fair, where she emphasized her commitment to the film. “I am there to support my movie and the people involved in making it, and I’m not there to talk about jeans,” she explained. “The movie’s about Christy, and that’s what I’ll be there to talk about.”
While the American Eagle’s Chief Marketing Officer is keen to highlight the brand’s ongoing partnerships with Sweeney and the newly engaged NFL star Travis Kelce, the conversation among critics has shifted back to Sweeney’s role in her latest film.
Transformative Role in “Christy”
In “Christy,” Sweeney portrays Christy Martin, one of the pioneering women in boxing. For the role, Sweeney underwent a significant physical transformation, adding 30 pounds of muscle over just three and a half months. She described her rigorous routine to W magazine, “I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.”
Early feedback for “Christy” has been favorable, with critics lauding Sweeney’s physical transformation and the film’s authentic boxing scenes. The question remains whether this strong performance at TIFF will shift the focus away from her fashion endorsements.
Regardless of the ongoing discussions, Sweeney continues to impress and remains a standout presence at TIFF.
