A new trailer released by Lamar and Apple Music on Thursday shows Lamar walking across a football field, followed by SZA who joins him with a playful splash. The pair is slated to headline the halftime show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9.
SZA, who was previously signed with Lamar under Top Dawg Entertainment, collaborated with him on his latest album, “GNX.” She contributed to several tracks including “Gloria” and “Luther,” which features interlaced vocals from Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn in “If This World Were Mine.”
A History of Collaborative Success
Lamar and SZA are known for their successful collaborations in the past, with hits like the Oscar-nominated “All the Stars” and “Doves in the Wind.”
This spring and summer, the duo will also embark on a 19-city North American tour. Named The Grand National Tour, it will begin on April 19 in Minneapolis and conclude on June 18 in Washington, DC.
As the Grammy Awards approach on February 2, SZA enters with two nominations for her single “Saturn,” competing in the best R&B song and R&B performance categories. She has previously won four Grammys.
Kendrick Lamar: A Contender for Multiple Grammys
Lamar is approaching the Grammys with seven nominations, including his works “Like That” with Future and Metro Boomin, and “Not Like Us,” which is in the running for both song and record of the year. He boasts a career total of 17 Grammy wins.
The creative aspects of the halftime show will be co-executed by Roc Nation and Emmy-winning producer Jesse Collins. The creative direction for Lamar’s performance is set to be managed by pgLang, a creative company co-founded by Lamar and Dave Free, who is known for directing many of Lamar’s music videos.
Last year’s halftime show featured Usher in a spectacular performance with appearances by stars such as H.E.R., Jermaine Dupri, Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Alicia Keys.
