Not everyone is thrilled about Taylor Swift‘s decision to hold her wedding to Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden (MSG).

It was initially rumored that Swift and her soon-to-be husband would exchange vows on June 13 at the luxurious Ocean House hotel in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, a location near Swift’s well-known residence.

The “Shake It Off” artist even reportedly compensated another bride generously to secure the venue for her own wedding day. However, the venue was later switched to the larger Madison Square Garden to allow for more guests, sacrificing the exclusiveness of the planned intimate setting.

Local Disappointment Over Venue Change

One might assume that Watch Hill residents would welcome the absence of the inevitable media frenzy and disruption a wedding of this scale would entail. Yet, they are actually let down by the change. Several locals expressed their disappointment on Wednesday, lamenting that the festivities wouldn’t take place closer to home.

Moreover, the event was anticipated to significantly benefit the local economy.

A longtime Watch Hill resident remarked, “Taylor has been an excellent addition to our community, always respectful and considerate.”

An insider noted, “Taylor is an exemplary neighbor and community member. She and her family shop locally and make every effort to minimize disruptions. With her own security at her private residence, she’s hardly a bother to anyone around here.”

“Financially, not just Watch Hill but also the neighboring town of Westerly were expecting to see economic benefits from the wedding. At least a surge,” another source added.

Regarding the initially planned venue, one source mentioned, “The Ocean House stood to make a significant profit from hosting the wedding.”

That same source continued, “Just consider that a standard room, with taxes, costs nearly $2,000 per night, and even a bottle of water is priced at $18.”

Wedding Details at Madison Square Garden

Page Six has revealed that Swift’s wedding will be a 10-hour event with 1,000 guests in attendance!

The wedding schedule includes doors opening at 3:30 p.m., followed by a cocktail hour starting at 4 p.m. on MSG’s sixth-floor concourse. The ceremony is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. on the main arena floor.

The evening prior to the wedding, a smaller rehearsal dinner for 100 people will take place at MSG’s Infosys Theater.

Some residents of Watch Hill wondered how their small town, which one described as “essentially two city blocks,” would have managed such a large influx of people.

“The locals were genuinely worried about access issues during the event. They feared the town would be overwhelmed, potentially closing off streets and disrupting daily life,” explained a resident.
