As the warmer days make their return, are you dreaming of a sun-kissed complexion right now? A nutritionist reveals a natural method to enhance your skin and maintain your glow all year round.

Diet plays a critical role in skin health. Certain nutrients can lead to a brighter complexion and offer better protection against environmental damages. Nutritionist Raphaël Gruman explains in a TikTok video: “When you are out in the sun, UV rays can damage your skin cells and generate free radicals. To combat this, it’s essential to consume antioxidants found in foods, which will protect your skin from UV rays.” In other words, what you eat can significantly affect your skin.

Firstly, well-hydrated skin will reflect more light and appear smoother. This not only requires drinking plenty of water but also consuming healthy fats. These fats help maintain skin elasticity and reduce dehydration. They are found in foods like nuts and vegetable oils, which are rich in fatty acids. Moreover, for vibrant skin, it is crucial to supply your body with nutrients that combat oxidation and aging. Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant, is found in almonds and hazelnuts. Omega-3 fatty acids, present in fatty fish and flax seeds, also contribute to skin hydration and enhance its elasticity. Zinc plays a protective role against skin inflammation and aids in cellular regeneration, available in oysters, red meat, and legumes.

Beyond these foods that promote hydration and radiance, others naturally stimulate the production of melanin, the pigment that colors the skin. Melanin production is encouraged by an amino acid called tyrosine, found particularly in three foods: avocados, bananas, and almonds. Being rich in tyrosine, these foods support a tanned complexion while providing essential nutrients for your skin’s health.

By regularly incorporating these foods into your diet, you can achieve a subtle tan without the need for self-tanning creams. It’s a simple and effective way to keep a healthy glow throughout the year.
