Jason Isaacs remains proudly connected to his “White Lotus” character’s allegiance to the Blue Devils, regardless of Duke University’s disapproval.

This Sunday, Isaacs, who portrays Timothy Ratliff in the third season of the HBO hit, was seen at the grand finale event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Westlake Village, California. He was joined by fellow actors Patrick Schwarzenegger, Leslie Bibb, Aimee Lou Wood, among others.
On the red carpet, Isaacs was spotted in a sleek gray suit paired with a vivid blue Duke University T-shirt, an obvious homage to his character Timothy Ratliff’s favorite outfit during the season, which has also become a popular meme.
Controversy Over a T-Shirt
Isaacs’ choice of attire comes shortly after Duke University criticized the show for what they deemed an excessive display of their iconic royal blue logo. Bloomberg reported that the university took issue with the unauthorized use of their logo paired with “troubling” images, which gained widespread attention on social media following a viral meme related to Duke’s shocking NCAA Final Four loss.
In the fifth episode of “The White Lotus,” which aired on March 16, a scene features the family patriarch contemplating suicide while wearing a Duke-branded T-shirt in a nightmarish sequence.
The gray and blue T-shirt became a recurring element throughout the season. Ratliff frequently wore it while sleeping — and while scheming to murder his family — amidst an FBI investigation into his involvement in a money laundering operation.
Duke’s vice president for communications, marketing, and public affairs, Frank Tramble, expressed the university’s displeasure, stating, “‘The White Lotus’ not only used our brand without permission but also associated it with disturbing imagery that does not represent our values or identity, and simply crosses the line,” he elaborated in a statement.
Tramble added, “While Duke values artistic expression and creative storytelling, the prominent display of apparel featuring Duke’s federally registered trademarks suggests a non-existent endorsement or affiliation, creating confusion.”
Characters Come to Life at the Finale
At the show’s finale, other cast members also embraced their on-screen personas. Sam Nivola, who plays Isaacs’ on-screen son, dressed in a resort-appropriate Gucci red printed silk twill bowling shirt.
Schwarzenegger chose a white pinstripe suit, reminiscent of something his character Saxon might wear, while Charlotte Le Bon (Chloe) opted for a full Gucci suit and tie, perhaps hinting at her character’s dominant role in her on-screen relationship.
With the season wrapped up, it seems like everyone could use a breather—or perhaps a Lorazepam.
