Your Voice, Your Choice #35 – Jayne Murdoch from Munro
Today we continue with our popular “Your Voice, Your Choice” feature on Belles and Gals. We introduce one of our favourite songs from a country artist and then the artist tells us in turn about a song that has inspired them and has a special place in their heart. Today we feature Jayne Murdoch from Scotland country duo Munro.
Jayne Murdoch is one half of Munro (alongside Richard Smith), a country duo whose debut E.P. ‘Coming Home’ released in the spring was just fantastic. I wrote at the time “The duo has hit the ground running and upon the release of the EP tomorrow, the UK country scene will suddenly possess a little more magic. A great debut.” You can read the full review here – the pair have an infectious quality in their music, Jayne’s vocals are just fantastic and I genuinely can’t wait to hear more. This E.P. was a real highlight of 2017 for me.
Today I’m sharing ‘Let It Go’, the second track from the EP, an upbeat number about walking away from that relationship that just isn’t working. It’s positive, it’s fun and and it features a fiddle – what more could you want?

Jayne Murdoch has chosen ‘Maybe’ from Alison Krauss and Union Station.
She writes:
“I found Alison’s music at music college in the 90’s, one of my tutors was a huge fan and introduced us to her beautiful voice. She is my artist of choice over and over again. Her voice is angelic, controlled and verging on perfect. She has spent a lifetime crafting and perfecting her effortlessly sounding vocal and in my opinion is one of the greatest singers ever (she’s a pretty amazing fiddle player too). Her tone and precision in a recording is only surpassed by her live performance which shakes you to the core with it’s raw emotional beauty and complexity. You can probably tell I love this woman, and Union Station, they are awesome!
This song is from the album “Forget about it” which I had on repeat while going through a breakup. These songs broke my heart and healed my soul at the same time.”
