Introducing Jess Thristan

Today we’re delighted to feature Jess Thristan for the first time. Jess Thristan might be a new name to some of you, but that won’t be the case for long! Having seen Jess play live in London last week, I knew I had to find out more about the West Yorkshire artist. Read on to find out about how she got started in music, her favourite gig so far, how 2019 is going to be a big year and where you’ll find Jess Thristan on social media!

Hi Jess, Last Friday a few members of the Belles and Gals team headed to London to see you play live – and what a gig it was, featuring an all-female line up too! You clearly adore playing live music – does anything beat it?

Thank you so much! And thank you for coming along, I’m so glad you enjoyed the show. The line-up was fantastic and I was so honoured to have those girls along to play the first Jess Thristan and Friends show. I do love playing live, I really love writing and creating new music in the studio, but it’s getting to perform those songs to a crowd the live connection with the audience that is something so special to me and I’ll always love it.

If you had to describe your sound to anyone who hasn’t heard you before, describe it in just 3 words!

Wow – a tough question! I would say my music is sassy, heart-wrenching and empowering.

So how did it all start for you? Have you always wanted to sing? Was it a case of hairbrush in front of the mirror from a young age?

Yes! I’ve always loved singing and performing. As kids, my best friend and I were always putting on shows whenever we were together, for anyone who we could find in the house to perform to, and we used to write (really bad!) songs together too! I’ve always been creative in that way, I think, but it wasn’t until I reached high school that I realised it was something I wanted to do as a career, so that’s when I picked up a guitar and started writing songs properly and it all just built from there!

And if you had to pick out a particular highlight from your career, what would it be?

I would probably say that the first Jess Thristan and Friends show in September was my highlight so far. Putting on a show like that was something I’d wanted to do for a while but wasn’t sure how to put it together, so when I got the opportunity I jumped at it and I’m so happy at how it turned out. The country music community in the UK is so special to me and so welcoming that the show really made me feel so excited for the future.

To finish, we hear you have an exciting new music project coming in the new year? Can you give us any hints?!

Well, there’s so much in the works for next year already! I can’t say much so far, but if you’ve been to see me live you’ll have heard some of the new songs and potentially may have heard an upcoming release! If you’re interested in finding out when that will be, make sure you’re following me on my social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram)! Stay tuned for 2019 – I’m so excited!
