Today sees the release of ‘Whatever You’ve Got’, the fantastic new single from Georgia Nevada. The song is the debut release from Georgia, an artist who has been working with us at Belles and Gals. Georgia has been one of the most widely seen artists on the live streaming scene in recent months, and it’s fantastic to finally hear her debut release.
Whatever You’ve Got’ is definitely a song written in ‘mild’ frustration… I had moved hours away from my family and friends, started a new (nice) job and just got engaged to a wonderful man. However, I realised that I just wasn’t happy. It didn’t seem to matter how much I played music, how many songs I wrote – there was just no way to express how I was feeling. After a day of ‘oh you’ve really got your life together’ comments, it occurred to me that that was the problem. I didn’t want to ‘have my life together!’ I wanted to explore more, live on the edge a little more & pursue what I feel is the ‘real’ me. I grabbed my guitar, sobbed my heart out and wrote ‘Whatever You’ve Got’ in that exact moment. Moonshine, tattoos, guitars and music are what make my life seem ‘together’ – not necessarily the ‘togetherness’ that everyone seemed to compliment.
The song is an instant impact track, with Georgia’s standout vocals kicking in immediately. The track has an edginess and sass that shows a real confidence from the Brighton based singer, while it’s clever lyrically too. Lines such as ‘A dive bar is so damn far from where my hometown rests, it’s all good on paper, but what I wants on the rocks, but if you can’t give me that, I’ll take a shot at whatever you’ve got‘ add a ‘real life’ feel to the message Georgia is putting across. The driving guitar in the background only adds to the overall edgy atmosphere of the track.
As a debut release this is simply brilliant and is surely the opening salvo to a very successful career.
