Lucy-May Announces New Single To Be Released On 4th June

It’s been quite a while since we had any new musical output from London based country artist Lucy-May, but all that is thankfully about to change!
She has been very busy behind the scenes, and is currently promoting her upcoming single, a cover of the timeless classic “Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me” which was of course most famously recorded by Gladys Knight but in fact originally by country artist/songwriter/innovator Ray Price back in 1973.
Having listened to my advance copy I must say that it’s a perfect choice for Lucy’s voice which is best described as a blend of classic R&B with a modern country take, and the stripped back acoustic guitar accompaniment (courtesy of Ryan Parrino who also produced the track) puts her emotional vocals to the fore. Yes, this is a dreamy interpretation which really does have all the “feels”. While she is of course a talented songwriter herself, Lucy chose to record this timeless classic when she was in New York as a surprise present for her parents to mark their Golden Wedding Anniversary… it’s their favourite song…and was so pleased with how it came out the decision was made to get it re-mixed and mastered (by Mikhail Pivovarov).
She is currently busy pitching the single to radio ahead of its release on June 4th, so listen out for it over the airwaves, and it is also available to pre-save it now https://slinky.to/LucyMayBestThing.
This is the first of what will hopefully be more to come from Lucy before too long as she is currently writing like crazy for her third album, but at the start of this year things took a worrying turn and she was struck down with the Covid-19 virus and required hospitalisation due to severe chest pains and difficulty breathing. She was left with damaged lungs, but thankfully nothing permanent, and the fantastic treatment she received means she is able to continue to pursue the career she is so passionate about.
An engaging live performer too, Lucy has previously opened artists including Striking Matches, Ashley Monroe and Gabrielle, and performed at C2C, The Isle of Wight Festival and at the legendary Royal Albert Hall. With restrictions  hopefully continuing to ease, keep an eye open for gig announcements in the coming months… she is already announced as appearing on the main stage at the Rock The Castle Festival this Summer… you can keep up to date with all her news via the following links
