Following on from the announcement that acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician Kelsey Waldon will be releasing her fourth studio album, “No Regular Dog”, on 12th August via the late John Prine’s Oh Boy Records comes news of the second single to be taken from the project.
“Tall And Mighty” , which follows on from the album’s very well received lead single “Sweet Little Girl”, was released last Wednesday, together with the track’s official music video which includes clips of the recording process at Dave’s Room Studio in Los Angeles. The two songs are indicative of the deep self-reflection that runs throughout the upcoming album, which has been produced by Shooter Jennings and showcases Kelsey’s most personal songwriting to date. Kelsey has been performing them both during the recent “Oh Boy Records Goes To Europe 2022 Tour” which saw her joined by label mates Emily Scott Robinson and Arlo McKinley and which I was fortunate enough to catch in London last week, one of two sold out shows in the capital.
Of the new self penned single, Kelsey reflects “I’d been having conversations with my peers in this business, especially all my girlfriends who are such amazing songwriters in their own right, talking about this journey and all the smoke and mirrors of trying to live up to your dream . There have been times when I’ve tried to prove the wrong thing, but I’m through with that now. I’m not trying to be anybody but myself, and to write songs that show what’s in my heart and on my mind”.
It’s something she has definitely achieved with “Tall And Mighty”, lyrically she doesn’t hold back and although its main inspiration draws on her experiences in the music industry I’m sure its message of reassurance will ring true to many of us who are feeling the pressures of modern life, forced to always put on a brave face when you feel far from ok…. “some days you’re gonna feel real fine, on top of the world on cloud nine… other days you won’t feel alright, other days you wanna break down and cry… you can’t stand tall and mighty all the time “.
Now back in the States,Kelsey who was raised in Monkey’s Eyebrow, Kentucky and is based in Nashville these days , is preparing to embark on her extensive nationwide “No Regular Dog Tour” which will be keeping her busy until mid December.
