France has decided to keep its two public holidays intact. Here’s a look at the upcoming holiday schedule and long weekend opportunities.

Newly appointed Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has decided against eliminating two public holidays, a proposal originally made by François Bayrou, which would have cut Easter Monday and Pentecost Monday from the calendar. Lecornu argued that removing these days would unfairly burden workers and emphasized the need to “protect those who work.” He noted that overturning this reform means “finding alternative funding sources” to compensate for the planned budget savings in 2026. Here are the dates for the upcoming public holidays in France for the years 2025 and 2026.

Public Holiday Calendar for 2025:

  • All Saints’ Day: Saturday, November 1
  • Armistice Day 1918: Tuesday, November 11
  • Christmas Day: Thursday, December 25

With most holidays occurring during the week, you can significantly extend your vacation days by strategically taking off. For example, in November, you can enjoy a 9-day break by taking Monday 10th, Wednesday 12th, Thursday 13th, and Friday 14th off, with November 11th falling on a Tuesday. Similarly, in December, you can arrange a 9-day holiday by taking off the 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 26th, with Christmas falling on a Thursday.

Public Holiday Calendar for 2026

Had the two public holidays mentioned by the Prime Minister been eliminated, French citizens would have been left with only nine weekday public holidays next year, as Assumption Day on August 15th falls on a Saturday and All Saints’ Day on November 1st falls on a Sunday. Those looking to enjoy extended weekends can plan around the following dates:

  • New Year’s Day: Thursday, January 1, 2026
  • Easter Monday: April 6 (if not removed)
  • Labour Day: Friday, May 1
  • Victory in Europe Day: Friday, May 8 (if not removed)
  • Ascension Day: Thursday, May 14
  • Pentecost Monday: Monday, May 25
  • Bastille Day: Tuesday, July 14
  • Assumption Day: Saturday, August 15
  • All Saints’ Day: Sunday, November 1
  • Armistice Day 1918: Wednesday, November 11
  • Christmas Day: Friday, December 25

By targeting public holidays that occur mid-week and strategically taking a few days off around them, you can still maximize your vacation periods. Whether you’re aiming for extended weekends or true breaks, a thorough review of the holiday calendar is your best tool for making the most of your time off.
