Anna Wintour and Meryl Streep Share Laughs on Vogue Cover!

In anticipation of “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” set for a May 1 release, Meryl Streep and Anna Wintour graced the cover of Vogue together, both stylishly clad in Prada, of course.

The iconic Annie Leibovitz captured the esteemed duo, while Greta Gerwig engaged them in conversation about the much-awaited sequel, the evolving world of fashion, and life in their 70s (all three women, Streep, Wintour, and Leibovitz, are 76), among other topics.

In the original 2006 movie, which was an adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel, Streep’s character, the stern Runway magazine editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, was notably modeled after Vogue’s influential Anna Wintour, who was once Weisberger’s boss.

During their chat, Streep revealed to Gerwig that outfitting Miranda in high-end fashion was a major hurdle initially: “Everyone was too intimidated by Anna back then, so we ended up with virtually no designer pieces to work with.”

Nonetheless, Wintour showed her support by attending the premiere of the film, dressed in Prada, and told Gerwig, “Being portrayed by Meryl is a tremendous honor, despite how different Miranda may be from me. Who wouldn’t see that as an incredible gift?”

However, the media mogul confessed she felt anxious about the sequel. “Upon hearing whispers of a second film, I immediately reached out to Meryl to confirm. I knew she’d be honest with me about whether it was shaping up well,” Wintour recalled.

“She hadn’t seen the script yet, so she promised to get back to me. True to her word, she called after reading it and reassured me, ‘Anna, I think it’s going to be fine.’ She didn’t divulge much, but I trust her judgment completely.”

Despite their cinematic collaboration, Streep and Wintour are not looking to switch professional roles anytime soon.

When questioned about potentially pursuing acting, Wintour responded, “Absolutely not. I possess no talents for that realm. I can’t sing, dance, act, or even sew—acting is certainly not in my future.”

Conversely, Streep dismissed the notion of managing a global entity like Vogue, particularly dreading the fashion obligations it entails. “The thought of those shoes terrifies me,” she joked.
