High-Profile Collaboration
Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, a prominent producer known for her work with Jennifer Lopez on films such as “Hustlers,” is joining forces with Darren Star, the mind behind “Sex and the City,” to adapt Goldsmith-Thomas’ first novel for television.
Universal Television has acquired the adaptation rights to “Climbing in Heels,” which is set to be published on April 29 by St. Martin’s Press.
Creative Heads
Both Goldsmith-Thomas and Star will serve as executive producers and co-writers for the show.
The narrative of the book centers on the ascent of five driven assistants in the glamorous setting of 1980s Hollywood.
Star, whose credits also include “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Emily in Paris,” described the upcoming series as an “addictive fictional account of Hollywood… through a female lens,” and likened it to “a ballsy and bawdy love child of ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Sex and the City.'”
Goldsmith-Thomas’ Industry Impact
Before transitioning into film production, Goldsmith-Thomas was a leading Hollywood agent, representing major stars such as Jennifer Lopez, Julia Roberts, Madonna, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Spike Lee, and Nicolas Cage. Her production credits include “Maid in Manhattan,” “Mona Lisa Smile,” and “Hustlers.” She currently holds the position of president at Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions.
Goldsmith-Thomas expressed her excitement about the project, stating, “I am thrilled to be partnering with Darren Star and Universal Television to bring life to these complicated, colorful women who refused to be sidelined or silenced.”
