Nestled in Charente-Maritime, La Palmyre Zoo with its array of thousands of animals invites you for a day filled with the exploration of wildlife and the significance of animal conservation starting June 2, 2020.
La Palmyre Zoo is an animal park located in Les Mathes, a small town in Charente-Maritime, close to the Atlantic Ocean. Deeply committed to the conservation of endangered species, it spans 18 hectares. But which animals will you encounter? Gorillas, cranes, crocodiles, iguanas, lions, panthers, penguins, elephants, and even giant tortoises… In total, there are over 1600 animals that you can admire at La Palmyre Zoo. In 2019, the polar bears made their big comeback to the zoo! And that’s not all: La Palmyre Zoo also hosts bird and seal shows between Easter and All Saints’ Day, delighting all visitors.
La Palmyre Zoo: Over a Hundred Animal Species
La Palmyre Zoo is renowned for housing numerous animal species from diverse natural habitats. Visitors wander through the park’s pathways to discover and observe marine mammals, primates, reptiles, and ungulates. The polar bears, seals, spectacled caimans, elephants, and rhinoceroses are among the zoo’s stars! Make sure to visit the carnivores: tigers, cheetahs, lions, and other panthers are residents of the park. Children are also thrilled by the thirty species of colorful birds! Educational workshops are organized by the park to raise awareness among the young about the essential protection of species.
Entertainment at La Palmyre Zoo
La Palmyre Zoo will open its doors starting June 2, 2020. A health protocol has been implemented to protect visitors, employees, and the park’s animals. Guests are not allowed to feed the animals or access the dwarf goat park. Mask-wearing is recommended, especially in enclosed spaces, and a distance of 1 meter between each family must be maintained. Hand sanitizer dispensers have been installed, along with directional arrows to define a one-way system. To avoid long lines at the entrance, it is advised to book your ticket on La Palmyre Zoo’s website. Animal shows will not take place until further notice.
La Palmyre Zoo knows how to accommodate its many visitors: several relaxation areas have been set up for taking breaks! The discovery of the Great Apes Space is a prime spot for relaxation: visitors are captivated by the gorillas, chimpanzees, and orangutans living harmoniously in this 3-hectare area. For rest, meals, or refreshments, head to the Italian ice cream stand, the bar, or the fast-food restaurant. To buy a lovely souvenir for your children, the shop awaits you!
