Following the birth of her daughter, Adriana Karembeu fell in love with a fragrance that she has since made her signature scent. It’s a familiar one to many.

Adriana Karembeu openly admits that she’s not typically loyal to a single perfume. She loves to switch up her scents, try out new products, and explore different aromas. “I have a particular fondness for the smells of cinnamon, vanilla, amber, and musk. I enjoy sensual and sweet scents, but nothing too overpowering,” she shared with Marie Claire. However, everything changed with the arrival of her daughter Nina in August 2018, whom she shares with businessman André Ohanian. She fell for a fragrance from a renowned French brand and has been devoted to it ever since, as she revealed last February.

This perfume is undoubtedly known to you. You might have even worn it yourself since its launch in 1992. “Normally, I don’t stick to one particular perfume; I get bored quite easily. But for the past six and a half years, I’ve been loyal to Angel by Thierry Mugler. I’ve worn only this perfume since my daughter was born,” she explained to Gala. “I immediately associate it with Nina, so I never go without it. Our memories are so connected to our sense of smell!

Angel remains a legendary creation in the world of fragrances. In the 1990s, Thierry Mugler was already a celebrated name but had yet to introduce a fragrance of his own. He conceived a perfume that blended the aromas of chocolate and caramel, something a young boy might give to his mother. Perfumer Olivier Cresp took on the challenge of crafting the scent, which features top notes of bergamot and mandarin. The heart is rich with peach, apricot, and passion fruit, while the base notes include caramel and cocoa along with honey, patchouli, and vanilla. This was a groundbreaking approach at the time, using raw materials that were rarely utilized in perfumery. The iconic bottle was inspired by a star-shaped ring that the designer always wore. This motif was also a common element in Mugler’s clothing designs and even tattooed on his skin.

Adriana Karembeu’s deep affection for this scent is echoed by her daughter: “My daughter doesn’t wear perfume yet because she’s still a child, but when I travel or go to work, she keeps my pajamas close like a security blanket because they smell like my perfume. She always tells me, ‘This way, Mommy, I can smell you!’ It’s incredibly powerful!” Some fragrances define a generation. Others define a lifetime. For Adriana Karembeu, Angel does both.
