This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
You might soon notice an unusual color signage if you reside in one of these French regions.
On the highway, driver safety is paramount. That’s why a new road marking has been introduced in the traffic code in certain regions of France. If you encounter it, here’s how to react to avoid a hefty fine.
Initial reports are clear: this marking catches the eye, which is precisely what the authorities had hoped for. Drivers are taken aback by this new bright color, inspired by successful experiments in the Netherlands and Spain. In areas deemed sensitive, where the risk of accidents is particularly high, public officials have decided to use color as a preventative measure. Indeed, when a driver sees this wide stripe on the ground, they know they are entering a high-risk zone. The goal? To reduce speeding in these accident-prone areas. In Spain, for example, these markings have already proven their effectiveness, leading to a significant reduction in accidents in the areas they are used.
Furthermore, to reinforce the impact of this new signage, strict rules govern its use. If not adhered to, the driver faces a standard fine of 135 euros, which can increase up to 750 euros. Additionally, alongside the fine, the driver also loses three points on their driving license. We’re talking about crossing a wide solid red line, indicating a total prohibition on overtaking as well as a call for slowing down and heightened vigilance from drivers.
This system is still in the testing phase, limited to certain sections, including in the Rhône Valley near Vienne, as well as on the A10 heading towards Bordeaux in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This trial has already proven successful, and the marking could be expanded nationwide, covering other sensitive areas. So, keep your eyes peeled!
