He thought he was rescuing a sheep—but it turned out to be something else
This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
More and more French people are opting into this scheme. It’s an easy way to make extra money each month.
Who can boast, “I made 150 euros just by having a sticker on my car”? It might sound like a scam or too good to be true. Yet, any driver can effortlessly boost their monthly income this way. In times when the cost of living is rising, these little boosts are far from trivial—they are crucial for managing daily expenses. A tank of gas, a shopping cart full of groceries, a family outing… For many, it can make a real difference at the end of the month since every euro counts. But how does it work?
You might have seen them on the road while driving, never imagining that you could also benefit. The concept is quite straightforward: turn your car into an advertising medium and get paid to drive as usual. You might be thinking, “No way I’m turning my car into a giant billboard!” Don’t worry, the advertising formats have evolved. Today, there are subtle ads, often just a sticker on the rear window or the doors. This is exactly what the French startup Loopicom offers, among others, specializing in car advertising for private individuals.
Loopicom connects businesses with drivers to promote a product or service in a specific region. The driver must have a car in good condition, less than 15 years old, and use it frequently, especially in urban areas where many people can see the advertisement. If the conditions are met, “each campaign can earn you money, gifts, vouchers… with a guaranteed minimum value of 50 euros,” the company states on its website. At such rates, many drivers do not hesitate to enhance their purchasing power. In one year, Loopicom registered 1,500 participants. “Currently, it’s a three-month campaign where I’m paid 150 euros for displaying on my vehicle. It helps pay for some parking at my workplace, or for gas,” shared a participant with TF1.
To get paid, the driver must send monthly photos of their car with the advertisement clearly visible. It’s a quick but necessary step to receive the payment. And for those looking to earn even more, there’s another option. Some companies also offer to place advertisements at private residences: in the garden, on a gate, a wall, or a fence. This is particularly lucrative if you live in a high-traffic area. The good news: this option often pays better.
