Carl Radke finds solace and inspiration in reading.
“I gravitate towards nonfiction, memoirs, autobiographies, wellness, and self-help books,” shares the “Summer House” star, whose latest book “Cake Eater” is currently available.
An avid reader from a young age, Radke credits his family for his passion for books.
“My grandfather, also named Carl Radke, was a book lover well into his 70s and 80s. My mom is also a keen reader, and we often exchange books,” he explains.
In his recent memoir, the reality TV personality openly discusses his struggles with sobriety and the painful loss of his brother in 2020.
Below, find Radke’s top six book recommendations.
“Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World” by Admiral William H. McRaven
“This is one of the top reads available — originally a commencement speech, it highlights how minor daily actions can foster discipline, establish solid habits, and assist in achieving goals.”
“Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds” by David Goggins
“This book was crucial, especially when I desperately needed inspiration and a tough push during my lowest points in 2019-2020. David kick-started my recovery. The audiobook is phenomenal, with the narrator not only delivering the content superbly but also interviewing David between chapters for a unique experience.”
“That’s a Great Question, I’d Love to Tell You” by Elyse Myers
“Elyse is both a friend and a phenomenal talent who deserves immense recognition. Her book radiates with humor and sincerity, and it’s incredibly relatable. She pours her heart into her writing, and it shows.”
“Maybe You Should Talk To Someone: A Therapist, HER Therapist, and Our Lives Revealed” by Lori Gottlieb
“It’s fascinating to think that therapists also have therapists. This book is a gem and has been a significant part of my personal growth. Lori’s insights have also greatly assisted me with my own book.”
“The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom” by Don Miguel Ruiz
“I first picked up this book in 2010 and it was impactful, though I didn’t fully absorb it then. It’s the type of book you can revisit multiple times, each time gaining new insights that challenge your thinking and impart fundamental life lessons. It’s possibly the greatest self-help book ever written.”
“The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living” by Ryan Holiday
“I began following this Instagram account in 2019 for daily doses of inspiration and philosophy, and I’ve since become a big fan of Ryan’s work. This book is packed with profound wisdom that encourages us to lead happier lives and strive to be our best selves.”
