She will let you know the best time to come so she can prepare a bit and ensure that the room doesn’t turn into a family reunion hall!

Visits from close relatives at the hospital should be rather brief because the new mom is often exhausted. You’ll have plenty of opportunities to spend more time with the baby once they are home.

Less intimate friends and colleagues might want to hold off: the mom can invite them later to a celebration in honor of her child (a baptism, a gathering…) or introduce the newborn after a few months.

Family members and godparents often give jewelry (bracelets, necklaces…). The new mom will likely have prepared a newborn wardrobe with clothes she bought herself or received from sisters and cousins. If you want to gift clothes, choose sizes for 3 or even 6 months so the baby can wear them a bit longer.
