Gigi Zumbado is eager for her next plane ride.
“I actually look forward to long days of travel because they give me up to eight hours of uninterrupted reading time,” shares the actress, whose latest series “DMV” airs every Monday at 8:30 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
She continues, “I make it a point not to purchase WiFi and instead immerse myself in a new book.”
Zumbado enjoys delving into a fresh read either while flying or enjoying an IPA at a bar. However, she firmly dislikes reading while eating.
Below are the six books that the “Bride Hard” actress highly recommends.
“Scar Tissue” by Anthony Kiedis and Larry Sloman
“I was mesmerized by this book in middle school and it still holds a special place now, at my current undisclosed age. Anthony Kiedis’s distinct eloquence in storytelling through this book lets me vicariously navigate his life’s ups and downs, helping me dodge my own potential pitfalls. Is it a self-help book? Perhaps, for me! A big ‘thank you’ to AK and everyone who played a part in this enthralling mess. I’ve read it six times.”
“Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse
“Returning to this book is like a therapeutic escape for me. ‘Siddhartha’ is like a refreshing beer in a serene river, cleansing the soul. I originally borrowed it from my older sister’s collection for a quick read and find myself revisiting it every few years to rejuvenate my mind. A perfect score for Hermann Hesse!”
“The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas
“Who doesn’t include this masterpiece in their top list of books?”
“The Great Alone” by Kristin Hannah
“This novel kickstarted an informal book club with my co-stars on ‘DMV.’ Tony Cavalero and his wife Annie recommended it, and although its heft was daunting, the connection I formed with the characters was profound. I still find myself missing them and secretly wishing I could peek into their current lives. It’s a heartfelt recommendation, and I eagerly await Kristin Hannah’s next work.”
“Tuesdays with Morrie” by Mitch Albom
“This was the first book that ever made me cry, and I’m forever grateful to Mitch Albom for that powerful experience. Despite usually avoiding tears, I absolutely loved this book!”
“The Gift of Fear” by Gavin de Becker
“This book was suggested to me while I was relaxing in a hot tub in Palm Springs. Never did I imagine that Gavin de Becker would affirm all my deep-seated fears and anxieties in one book. Reluctantly, I admit, he nailed it. I am so convinced of its importance that I’ve gifted it to every woman I know. My profound thanks to Gavin for this life-altering read. Apologies to any lady in my circle who’s reading this and hasn’t gotten their copy yet.”
