This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
A crucial beauty secret that outperforms expensive serums and perfectly enhances your facial care routine.
In the cosmetics and skincare industry, anti-aging claims often come with spectacular promises and hefty price tags. Expensive creams pile up, each promising miraculous results if only you’re willing to invest heavily. Helen Mirren, however, takes a more grounded approach. She emphasizes that your face isn’t just about the signs of aging, but also about how you perceive it every day.
In an interview with Elle magazine, 80-year-old Helen Mirren discusses our complex relationship with our image. She doesn’t criticize those who choose to alter their appearance: “If women or men feel defeated when they look in the mirror and they have the means to change that, then good for them.” However, she expresses concern about the external pressures that can affect one’s morale. For Helen Mirren, beauty shouldn’t be a race to fix imperfections but a personal balance.
She shares that at a young age, she was advised to undergo a nose job to succeed in the film industry. “I said no. I didn’t want to be just a ‘pretty’ actress,” she recalls. Looking back, this decision becomes a statement: rather than trying to drastically change her face, she chose to work with what she had. According to her, trying too hard is a mistake because the face naturally evolves.
Following this philosophy, she offers her most surprising piece of advice. Before resorting to drastic measures, she suggests focusing on a fundamental element. “Make sure you have good lighting in your bathroom so that every time you look at yourself, you look good,” she explains. She adds playfully, “It’s much cheaper than any other solution. Bad lighting is so depressing.“
In practice, the ambiance created by lighting plays a vital role. Light that is too cold or harsh can enhance shadows and signs of fatigue. Conversely, a softer, well-directed light can enhance your complexion, smooth out appearances visually, and immediately improve how you look. This technical detail can transform both your routine and your self-esteem.
