Exploring Affordable Cookware Options
It’s a well-known fact echoed across media platforms, from radio to television and social media: Teflon-coated pans may not be the best choice for our health or the environment. However, their stainless steel counterparts often come with a steep price tag in stores. While we all agree that you can’t put a price on health, the dilemma of choosing between a $60 pan and a nice dinner out can lead some to postpone their cookware investments. In our search for a more budget-friendly option, we came across the Ikea 365+ model. Priced at just $16.99, it significantly undercuts its competitors. But the question remains: what can you really expect from these discount-priced pans? We’ve sifted through various reviews to find out.

This bizarre French customer habit is driving shop owners crazy
In an Instagram video, cooking enthusiast @ohsanaa puts the Ikea pans through a series of tests to check for non-stick performance and even cooking. She starts by making scrambled eggs. First, she drops a few droplets of water into the pan to ensure it’s adequately heated, adds a bit of butter, and cooks the eggs. The result? “We’ve got high-quality scrambled eggs here, nothing sticks, it’s fantastic,” she reports. What if you cook without any fat? @ohsanaa’s response: “I also tried cooking salmon without oil, and it didn’t stick.” It appears that, in terms of cooking, these pans pass with flying colors.
But what about the quality of the coating? Ikea’s website provides details on the composition: “a layer of aluminum sandwiched between two layers of stainless steel with a uniform metallic coating across the surface.” According to Ikea, this ensures even cooking. Importantly, there are no traces of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the controversial polymer better known as Teflon, in its material. Customer reviews are mixed—some complain about food sticking to the pan, which could also be a result of improper use. It’s crucial to remember that food should only be added to the pan once it’s properly preheated.
Other customers are thoroughly impressed. Emilie calls it “perfect,” and suggests doing the water droplet test to prevent sticking. Faryd praises his “superb pan, perfect for cooking.” Meanwhile, Nathalie is relieved: “finally a top-notch pan. Great quality,” she writes on the website. At such an affordable price, it might just be worth giving it a try.
